There are several safe solutions for anxiety, beginning with mind-body techniques to supplements and then there are soothing herbal drinks. Some start working right then and there, while others may decrease anxiety over time.

Kick your anxiety to the curb once and for all with these 6 natural remedies that actually work:

  • Chamomile

If you are experiencing jitters or feel unable to fall asleep, a glass of chamomile could really help calm you down and get your sleepless eyes to get some rest for the night. Its because it contains some compounds that bind to the same brain receptors as some heavy drugs such as valium.

  • Green Tea

Not only does green tea help your body get rid of toxins, it has been Buddhist monk’s secret to meditating for long hours for ages now. L-theanine is an amino acid found in green tea that helps control rising heart rate, blood pressure and curb anxiety.

  • Exercise

Exercise is the safest form of treatment there is; it’s healthy for the brain, and a powerful antidote to feeling depressed or anxious. It’s a short term and long term solution to many health problems.

  • Lavender

Lavender has a soothing scent that doesn’t only smell nice, but has been proven to decrease anxiety and stress. A new German pill that has been proven effective, is made with Lavender extract as it’s main ingredient and is now competing with anti-anxiety medication sold by big pharmaceutical companies.

  • Hold your breath

What we are recommending is a classic yoga breathing technique, it’s known as the “4-7-8 breathing” and why it actually works is that you can't be breathing deeply and be anxious, both at once. How it works is that you exhale completely through your mouth, and immediately inhale through your nose while counting till 4.You then hold your breath in for the count of 7 and let it out through your mouth slowly on the count of 8 through your mouth. This is easy to do anytime and anywhere, all it takes is a few seconds, repeat as needed.

  • Omega 3s

It’s recommended that you consume omega 3s through your daily diet: by eating oily fish that live in cold water. Excellent sources of Omega 3s is salmon, mussels, sardines and anchovies. You can always buy fish oil off the counter from any pharmacy if fish is not within your culinary preferences.

All that being said, the best advice we can give you on staying healthy and stress-free is that life is too short! The best medicine is laughter, love and kindness.

Stay happy and healthy Amman!
