PRP Injections (Plasma Injections)

PRP Injections (Plasma Injections)

This is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure used to improve skin tone, texture, and elasticity, resulting in a more youthful appearance. The treatment is ideal for individuals looking for gradual but noticeable skin rejuvenation with little downtime. PRP Facial Rejuvenation is an excellent natural alternative to conventional cosmetic treatments such as Botox and filler injections.

How does it work?
Blood collected from the patient is centrifuged down to create a platelet concentrated “serum,” otherwise known as the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). These platelets contain numerous growth factors.  When released in the body, the growth factors stimulate proliferation of fibroblasts, the precursor cells to collagen and elastin. Administration of PRP into the superficial skin layers, results in increased collagen and elastin deposition, helping to correct wrinkles, sagging skin, and scars.

What does the procedure entail?
The procedure itself includes facial micro-needling followed by superficial application of PRP over the needled region. The micro-needling allows for maximal penetration of PRP into the skin AND creates local micro-trauma. Both the PRP and the micro-trauma trigger the healing response, resulting in the release of fibroblasts and regeneration of tissue.  In cases of more pronounced skin deficits (eg. smile lines, acne scars), PRP is injected into targeted areas for more of a “filling” effect. Treatment areas include cheeks and mid-face, wrinkling around the eyes, smile lines, nasolabial fold, neck and jawline, chest, acne scars and more.  This process takes between 30-90 minutes, depending on complexity.

Preparation for the procedures involves a blood draw, skin cleansing, and application of facial numbing cream. Facial nerve blocks will be performed if deeper PRP injections are part of the treatment plan.

Post-treatment involves allowing the PRP to remain on the face for a minimum of 90 minutes.

What should my expectations be?

  • Improvement of skin texture and tone can be noticeable within 3 weeks and improvement continues for the next 8 months as collagen continues to regenerate.
  • For the best result, we recommend three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
  • If treatment recommendations are followed, results may persist up to 2 years.
  • For prolonged results, annual treatments are recommended for maintenance.

What are the risks and side-effects?
PRP skin treatments are extremely safe. Because PRP is produced from your own blood, there is little risk of infection or an allergic reaction. Side-effects may include: redness of the treated area up to 24 hours post-treatment and minor bruising up to a week, which can be concealed with cosmetics.
